Over the past few months, prank photographs have been everywhere, with some not only attracting significant online attention, but also resulting in serious repercussions for those involved.
Now, a man thought to be a university student is at the centre of a scandal for inserting a drinking-water tap at a public park into his now public posterior.
Are these prank photos showing Japan’s lighter side? Or are they taking things a step too far?
In the never-ending series of prank
pictures posted on networks such as Twitter, a photograph where a man
who looks to be a student in his twenties takes down his trousers in a
public park and seems to stick a water tap into his bottom was posted
online. The poster tweeted “Getting filled up”.
The man in the picture is apparently a student registered with the law faculty of Kokugakuin University
(Shibuya Ward, Tokyo). The photograph was actually uploaded on May 10,
but the university’s office of student affairs explained that
“Information about the picture only reached us in late August. We are in
the middle of an investigation, which includes finding out whether or
not the man in the picture is one of our students. Our response to the
picture will be decided after this.”
It is possible that the act of
revealing the lower half of one’s body in a public place can amount to
the crime of indecent exposure. The location of the park where the
photograph was taken is unknown. The man has already deleted his Twitter
account.
